Penury Hall is a beautiful place to stay. Sunny rooms and interesting decorations. The B&B is right in the middle of things in Southwest Harbor. Gretchen is very welcoming, made us feel right at home. Plenty of books and brochures to help you find things to do in the area. There are a couple of cats, if you have issues with cats. But my husband is allergic and had no trouble - I think they spend a lot of time outdoors and don't hang around in the guest rooms.

We loved this B & B. It was very comfortable and very clean, just the way we like it. Gretchen is a very gracious host and made us feel right at home. The breakfast's were delicious and served very graciously. The location is excellent as we were near downtown and could walk to restaurants and shops.She was very helpful as to directions and what to see. Met some very nice people at breakfast. We would definitely go back.

If you are seeking a B&B with a kind, friendly, informative hostess Penury Hall is just the place. Our Hostess Gretchen Strong could not have been more helpful, thoughtful, friendly, informative and generous to our every need. The rooms are well kept and comfortable and the location is within walking distance to good food, great ice cream and typical Maine hospitality. It is quite easy to get to hiking trails, bicycle paths and the Loop Road of Acadia National Park. Above all Gretchen gives you the feeling of being at home and very comfortable. What could be better!

Our stay was a true delight. The accommodations were pleasant and the breakfasts surpassed our expectations in variety and quality. Our hostess was friendly and helpful but never intrusive. The friendly and homey environment enhanced our visit to Acadia National Park.
