Acadia’s Schoodic Peninsula located in the heart of Downeast Maine, serves as home to Acadia's Oceanside Meadow Inn, an historic sea captains home c. 1860, standing on 200 acres at the head of Sand Cove in picturesque Prospect Harbor. Inside Acadia's Oceanside Meadow Inn you are reminded of the building's history and original owner. The travels of the sea captain are reflected in furnishings which would have been collected during his voyages around the globe.
Acadia National Park at Schoodic, just five minutes away, is a perfect setting for your next Maine vacation or special romantic getaway. The peninsula offers views of four of Maine’s beautiful lighthouses and the most wonderful scenery Downeast Maine has to offer.
The property encompasses a wide variety of habitats, from deep ocean frontage, rocky shore and tidal pools that form the sides of the bay, to a white sand beach and dune system that forms the head of the cove behind which there is a brackish water pond.
Around the inn we have mature perennial gardens that are raised exclusively using organic methods. On either side of the inn there are two fresh water streams that flow throughout the year; the calming sounds of which blend with those of the crashing surf which can be heard all around the inn.
Inside, inlaid screens from the east, a magnificent carved elephant from India, fine furnishings from England and many pieces reminiscent of the ports of Boston and New York adorn the inn. The living room, which commands spectacular views of the bay and crashing surf, boasts everal models of grand sailing ships. A large fire place bathes the room with a warm glow in the evening creating a welcoming atmosphere conducive to relaxation and conversation, while marshmallows are roasted and hot chocolate enjoyed after a day of fresh air and adventures on the peninsula.
Retiring to your room you will find comfortable queen or king sized beds and private bathrooms with showers or tubs. We have a large suite that has a queen sized bed, its own living room area as well as a small room adjoining that has two twin beds that is ideal as a dressing room if you are not traveling with children. This room, favored as a special treat for honeymooners, spans the house and has five over-sized windows offering views of the bay, meadows and gardens. All of the inn's rooms are all well sized and comfortable, and the attention to the detail makes your stay on the coast of Maine a relaxing one.
