Located in the historic district of the breathtaking seaside village of Camden, Maine, the Maine Stay Inn is one of the oldest historic homes in Maine, built in 1802. It projects the true essence of New England, its history, and its tradition. To visit the Maine Stay Inn is to literally step into a venerable piece of history. This New England bed and breakfast consists of a main house, along with an attached carriage house and a four-story barn. The inn is an exceptional example of the progressive farm buildings common to 19th century Maine.
The Maine Stay Inn’s three parlors, one with a wood burning fireplace, are tastefully decorated with period furnishings and beautiful paintings. Each of the guest rooms has individual style and character. Many of them have original wide plank pine flooring. Every room is very romantic, and includes modern conveniences such as wireless Internet, which is available throughout the entire inn.
Guests may enjoy a gourmet breakfast at the old harvest table in the dining room where ideas and experiences have been shared for over two hundred years, or eat at a table for two on the sun porch overlooking the garden.
This bed and breakfast’s grounds include a one-acre garden with tree-lined winding paths, a brook with a granite bridge, benches, and a swing. A two block walk down tree lined streets brings you to the Camden Harbor Park and then on to the shops and restaurants. The Camden Hills State Park, with over thirty miles of wonderful trails, is on the west while charming old homes (all listed on the National Register of Historic Places) are on the north and east.
You can play golf on one of the country’s premier courses, sail in a windjammer, eat lobster within yards of where they are being caught, or sit on the rock at the top of Mt. Battie where poet Edna St. Vincent Millay sat to gaze at the islands in the bay and gain inspiration.
