Bluestem grasses are an indicator of healthy soil on the prairie. Ken & Madeline Norland chose to name their Winfield, KS, inn Bluestem Bed & Breakfast, for this phenomenon because they value good stewardship of the land. The three rooms available are named for grasses and wildflowers that are indigenous to this region and relate to the décor chosen for the guests’ comfort. Spaces for rest, relaxation and reflection are being planned throughout the inn’s acreage so that this is a place where the guests can find renewal.
Rainwater is collected for care of the landscaping, cork and bamboo products are used in various ways because of their renewable aspects, and an extra all-home water filtering system ensures Nature’s best beverage is always available. The home was built of concrete construction, so energy efficiency goes hand in hand with a noticeable quiet.
Swedish massage, reflexology, hot stone massage, acupressure work, and herbal facials are some of the services offered that can be indulged in as part of the stay at the inn. Golf, tennis, biking, a first-class weight room, running/walking trails in the area are all available to guests. Indoor and outdoor swimming are open to the whole family, depending on the season, and guests are able to use the public facilities nearby. |

Local meats, eggs, vegetables, fruits and herbs are used whenever they are available. A local lady makes jellies that grace our table. Attention is paid to non-GMO and rBGH dairy products, as well as sweeteners without aspertame. We use Lavazza coffee and assorted teas. Great care is taken to accomodate healthy food needs.
Breakfasts can be served in the dining room, in-room, or when weather permits in the courtyard.
