Mont Rest History
Mont Rest was built in 1893 for $6,000 by Seth Luellyn Baker. He was a wealthy land developer who owned hotels, gold mines and paddle boats on the Mississippi. Baker was a true entrepreneur. He developed the town of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and he loved to gamble. Seth Baker was originally from Bellevue and came back to buy what was known as the north bluff of Bellevue. And as so many newly rich Victorians did he erected a monument to his stature in life. He named the property Mont Rest. The locals almost immediately started calling Mont Rest "The Castle" because of its unusual architecture and its towering presence over the town.

From the moment you walk through the door, Mont Rest transports you back to a lost era of grace and beauty. This historic Inn is Iowa's most luxurious bed and breakfast.

Breakfast includes a marvelous array of homemade pastries and breads, such as a cinnamon rolls, muffins, nut breads and yeast breads, fresh fruits and juices, quiches and other delectable egg dishes, breakfast meats, gourmet coffees, teas and hot cocoa. Menu varies depending on the time of year but we promise you a delightful morning dining experience. A history and tour of the house is given after the morning meal.

The Kitchen
Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages are available in our main floor kitchen and we offer such services as in-room therapeutic massage and reflexology.

Ginny's Woodland View
Eastlake, cozy and masculine are all words that describe this wonderful room at the top of the back oak stairwell. Done in forest greens & golds, this room's charm will enchant you. The bathroom has a wonderful wood paneled two person whirlpool tub, double shower, beveled leaded glass window and a charming pedestal sink. The bedroom windows envelop you in both the forest and mighty river. This room has a working fireplace.

Eagle's Nest
The Eagle's Nest has a queen size bed. Its bathroom, decorated in a sea shell motif, has a two person jacuzzi with double showers and sky light. This room has a working fireplace.
