Situated ninety minutes south of Chicago, the Greenhouse Bed and Breakfast provides a peaceful, eco-friendly oasis in the center of north-eastern Illinois farm country. Savor a home-cooked breakfast in the warmth of a 1900's vintage farmhouse on our three-acre farmstead. Stroll our organic, permaculture based gardens and orchard, enjoy our colorful chicken flock, and relax on a bench by the lily pond or in a hammock. Witness the benefits of our proximity to nature. Awaken to a rooster's crow or toad's chirp. Enjoy the stillness of country living, where on clear nights you can gaze upon beautiful sunsets and a spectacular night sky undisturbed by city lights. Enjoy a quick garden tour - perhaps you'll sight a honeybee from one of our hives. In summer, take a swim in our pool.
We have four bedrooms for overnight guests and facilities for weddings and parties both indoors and outdoors. We chose the name Greenhouse Bed and Breakfast not just because the house is green, but because we do our best to incorporate green principles into our lifestyle. We are affiliated with the Center for Sustainable Community (CSC) a non-profit educational organization in nearby Stelle. We support the efforts of the Center for Sustainable Community to teach more sustainable ways of living, and make our facilities available for CSC programs.
We delight in discussing with our guests topics as varied as sustainability, gardening, permaculture, cooking, beekeeping, poultry raising, spirituality, economics, or whatever interests you. Come for a visit and experience the ambiance of a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

Pets Welcome |
We charge $7/day extra for a dog to stay.
You need to bring its own food and feeder.
Some dogs love to swim in our lily pond, so we want to make sure the dog doesn’t get into the pond because it can destroy the lilies and other plants.
The dog is welcome in your room but not on the bed. The reason is that we sometimes have guests that are allergic to pets and we want to make sure the linens don't have dog hair on them. We would also appreciate if the dog doesn’t have any accidents in the bedroom.
bullet
Basically, we expect guest dogs to behave as well as our dogs. |

We are also innkeepers in Iowa and stayed here on our way to a family wedding in Ohio. We really enjoyed visiting with our hosts and our room was extremely comfortable. They have a lovely property and the food was wonderful. It's nice to sit and visit with people that enjoy the same lifestyle we have, but it's great to have someone else do the pampering for a change. Thanks for a lovely stay!

We found this wonderful B&B online, took a chance, and drove up the same day we found it. It was absolutely everything we were hoping for, and the Greenhouse is truly a Gem tucked in a place that one would definately not think to look for one of the best getaway B&B's we've ever found. Thank you so much M and G for such a wonderful evening and morning!

While the Greenhouse Bed & Breakfast is off the beaten path, you will certainly find a safe, tranquil sanctuary of quiet. The Greenhouse is nestled into the idyllic lanscape of America's heartland. The owners, Mark and Guia Hoffman, a charming couple, are exceptionally warm and welcoming. Their friendly dogs never failed to make me smile. I took my bicycle out on the trafficless country roads to take in the fresh air and sunshine, and I was enveloped in blue sky. I napped in their grass, watched amazing sunsets from their gardens and lagoon, and watched the stars come out through a web of tree branches from their hammock. Kankakee River State Park is a short drive away, where I hiked. Canoeing and swimming are also available there, as well as horseback-riding. Nicer restaurants are also found in Kankakee, but you would a fool to skip Guia's dinners. She is a five-star cook, using ingredients from her own gardens. I found her breakfasts outstanding. I took some of their fantastic organic honey, extracted from their very own hives, home with me. I can't wait to get back!

My husband and I stayed at Greenhouse B&B because of the country setting and the idea of eating healthy, organic food! We could also bring our dog -- a HUGE plus! Mark and Guia are beyond accomdidating, very relaxed and laid back. We felt right at home. We also can't say enough about Guia's wonderful meals -- AMAZING!!! They also have 3 dogs, so it was as much a vacation for our Bichon as it was for us -- he had a blast! We would highly recommend the Green house B&B for a very relaxing get-away.
