We were in the area for an SIU event and booked both rooms. We would heartily recommend Jim & Barb Bush's vineyard and b&b. We were greeted warmly by both. Our rooms were spotless,beautiful, had everything we needed, and we had a nice quiet evening relaxing. Dinner recommendations at the 17th St. Restaurant were perfect also. Breakfast hit the spot for us and our college age son. I'm sure we will be back, hopefully to stay longer. :)

Driving out to Kite Hill Vineyard and B&B was a dream: horses, miles of unspoiled natural beauty, hills, and then the acres of vines. Situated in the rolling hills of Southernmost Illinois, this bed and breakfast is a tired traveler’s treasure. We were greeted by friendly proprietors, Jim and Barb Bush. While I enjoyed the lake view and met Shadow, Fidget, and Romeo (the B&B’s three cats), my husband sampled the wide range of wines that is making Kite Hill famous. His favorites were the Chardonel and Chambourcin, and he learned that their grapes are rated the best in the Shawnee Hills AVA. Dinner the first night was at the famous 17th Street BBQ, where we met the proprietor, who by now is a big business tycoon and philanthropist. Our room was so cozy and the cool breeze of late Spring was delightful. Breakfast the next day was served with lovely lead crystal, silver plate, and on furniture so old and grand any antiquarian would be green with envy. Imagine a big hearty breakfast with homemade pastry and jams, and then a day of dolcezza di non fare niente (the sweetness of doing nothing). This is the gift of Kite Hill. You must visit rural Carbondale to see for yourself!
