Have stayed at many bed and breakfasts and this one is right up there with the best! The mansion is fantastic, the owners are so accomodating and want to please, the beds are really comfortable, the whirlpool is so relaxing, and easy to get to all the antique shops, wineries, flea markets and into St. Louis, Grafton etc. I loved the chocolate bar and the drinks always available. The breakfast that we did was the self serve economy version since my husband is on a diet and that is all we needed and there was way more than we could eat with cereal, yogurt, fruit cups, dried fruit, bagels, waffles etc. And the tour that Jim gives about the mansion is wonderful and I learned a lot! The ladies who do the cleaning and freshening are also so polite and helpful and ask if there is anything else that they could do to make our stay better--that reflects so well upon them and the owners....they truly care! A great experience in Alton at the best B&B!

My husband and I just needed a little time away, and we chose the Beall Mansion for our getaway. Our needs were totally met with allergy issues and diabetic issues. Attention to detail was very evident in the service we received. We enjoyed our room and the historic nature of the mansion itself. The chocolate buffet was awesome, and the welcoming glass of champagne was a nice touch. Jim gave us a history lesson about the mansion which was very enjoyable. We liked being able to pick the type of "pampering" that we wanted. It was so nice to pick the price range for our stay. Everything about our stay was outstanding! I would not hesitate to book there again!

We had told the inn keeper we would arrive by 10pm We did't arrive til 1am. He still met us in a tuxedo and a warm welcoming personality. The breakfast in bed was unbelievable in presentation and taste. The Inn itself was awesome. There was no dust, and it was immaculately kept. The 115 plants throughout the inn were green and not a dead leave on one, nor dust on a leaf. The whirlpool bath with chrystal chandlier over it was so inviting. And the lavendar homemade sea salts surely took every ache and pain away. I would compare this to the Drake Hotel in Chicago with elegance and pampering. It surely was a memory. Charm and ambiance being #1. Jim and his wife and staff were a unbelievable hosts.

My wife and I needed a night away from the kids and were looking in the Alton area for a place to stay. After reading several reviews, we decided on the Beall Mansion. The owners and staff were EXTREMELY friendly and made us feel more than welcome. Never did we feel as though we inconvenienced them with anything because they seemed perfectly happy to tend to all of our needs and answer all of our questions about the area. The room (ZB Job Room) was spacious, comfortable, clean, and beautiful. I had surgery only one week before our stay and was concerned about the comfort of the bed. Those concerns were gone with the best sleep I have had since my surgery on a VERY comfortable bed. We did not choose to participate in breakfast, choosing sleeping in rather than eating. Even though we were a little late getting up, they seemed more than happy to offer us something nonetheless. We did partake of the chocolate bar after returning from a night out with friends (friends who also stayed there and enjoyed their stay), and it was GREAT! I enjoyed sitting in the "Piano Room" as I call it (because of a beautiful old 1859 Steinway in the room), eating my chocolate, and sipping on a little brandy supplied by the facility. I highly recommend staying here if given the chance. We intend to return next year.

The Beall Mansion was the perfect place to spend our honeymoon! As a first time staying at a bed and breakfast, we weren't sure what to expect, but the house and rooms were absolutely fabulous with a great discount for staying at least a week. I would highly recommend for anyone to stay.

It's apparent that Jim and Sandy really go out of their way to make you feel at home in this wonderfully conserved Victorian style mansion. From the time they spend in decorating, furnishing and up keeping the place to the time they are willing to spend chatting with you about anything from the history of the house to the history of the town, it is evident that the Beall Mansion is not just a business for them, but more importantly, a passion. This transcends in every detail of the house.
We had a really good time there and look forward to staying at the Beall again.
