Built in 1833 by local banker Elias Brown, The House of 1833 Bed & Breakfast Resort in Mystic, Connecticut, is a 19th century Greek revival home. It’s located on three acres that were converted to one of Mystic's most romantic bed & breakfasts in 1994.
This architectural gem is a short distance from Exit 90 (Mystic) off I-95. Our convenient location puts you so close to all the excitement and activities of Southeastern CT and yet a true retreat, where time seems suspended... a place of timeless grace.
The home features two formal parlors; the front parlor with a Belgian marble fireplace and a second parlor with black marble mantel detailing and a 19th century crystal chandelier. These spectacular rooms are furnished in the 'period' and are here for our guests to enjoy, as well as our signature chocolate chip cookies..."the stuff dreams are made of". Potted palms and ferns and the effusive and singular beauty of orchids from the owner's own private collection create an interior 'natural' landscape. With the robust color of fresh cut blooms, one discovers a beautiful rhythm with the mansion's woodwork and period moldings.
So whether its a special occasion, a romantic weekend for two or just a fun-filled getaway, the House of 1833 will help make your visit to Mystic a memorable one.

Researched several B&Bs in the area to decide where to book. Our computer search lead us to the house of 1833. This would be our first experience at a B&B and websites including feedback was critical in making our choice the best the inns had to offer. Feedback was outstanding on this inn but the website, although very well done raised our expectations somewhat further than we actually experienced. We stayed in the Oak room which was advertized as the largest room in the inn. Actually, from our observation, the Veranda room appeared much larger than the Oak Room. Also the Veranda room had a bathroom attached (off) the bedroom instead of a private bath accross a hallway provided with the Oak room. Had we known this we would have booked the Veranda room over the Oak room. Additionally, rooms were advertized as having flat screen TVs,but the Oak room did not It had a cable connected older style TV which was acceptable. The only other thing that fell short of our expectations is that the website published menu was not available at the time of our visit, although the breakfast served was delicious. With a little web maintenance these inconsistencies can easily be corrected. The innkeepers were very friendly and even provided a nice surprise cake in our room as we were celebrating our 49 wedding anniversary the evening of our stay. Also they were most helpful suggesting points of interest and providing accurate directions.
We will definitely consider staying at the inn again.

We highly recommend the House of 1833 for anyone staying at a Bed and Breakfast. The house is beautiful as well as the rooms. The hosts Evan and Robert were very hospitable and also helpful when choosing restaurants to go for lunch or dinner. Very friendly and accommodating. Definitely the place to go for a romantic weekend.

We stayed in the Cupola room, excellent romantic room. The B&B is full of antiques. The innkeepers are exceptionally friendly. The food is way above anything I expected, very good and well presented. The B&B does have WIFI available (don't think its noted on the website).

The House of 1833 is beautiful and very well maintained. The hosts were very accommodating and helpful in picking restaurants and sights to see. They also cooked delicious breakfasts. The hosts made it seem as if we were staying with friends instead of staying in a hotel.

This was the most beautiful place I have ever seen. The furniture, the rooms, and the hospitality of Carol and Matt were outstanding. Not to mention the incredible breakfast she cooked for us every morning!
