In perusing the Mendocino Coast inn reviews, I noted that the ones for the Elk Cove Inn are extremely old, and thought I'd provide some current info. The Inn had an excellent reputation for service and amenities and gained a very loyal following when Elaine Bryant owned the Inn. After a new owner took over, the stellar reputation began to slide downward. The best news is that Elaine repurchased the Elk Cove Inn this summer (June 2008) and has restored its outstanding heritage. My husband and I stayed overnight at the Inn earlier this week (Dec. 2008) and had a superb experience! The Inn's bluff top location overlooking the Pacific offers stunning views. We stayed in the Frank Drew Suite located on the first-floor of the Luxury Spa Suites building. The spacious suite had a king bed, jacuzzi tub and gas fireplace--all the perfect ingredients for total relaxation! We also had an unobstructed panoramic view of the estuary, beach and ocean (all the way to the horizon) from our stone patio and from the interior of the suite. It's an ideal location for whale watching, sunset vistas and star-gazing. And the Inn has a private stairway down to the secluded, picturesque beach and cove. The beauty and serenity of the property really encourages you to stay put! Except you'll definitely want to amble over to the main house for an amazing buffet breakfast each morning. The number of dishes and the fresh, delicious quality were quite impressive. Although we didn’t have time to take advantage of it, there is a spa on the premises to provide yet another option for relaxation. The owner, Elaine, and all of her staff at the Inn are so friendly and helpful; we felt completely cared for. Although the Inn is best known for its luxury accommodations, esp. those in the spa suites and the cottages, there are smaller, simpler, but still very lovely rooms in the main house that have rates starting at $125-$155; perhaps even lower if the Inn is running specials. And, of course, you still get treated to all the same wonderful amenities, warm hospitality, fabulous views and unrivaled location! We found the Elk Cove Inn to be the ideal place to get away and simply relax, rejuvenate and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

This was the highlight of my vacation throughout the state of California. My cottage was so comforting to come back to at the end of each day's activities. The location is ideal being on it's own private bluff and away from the traffic in Mendincino. Waking and retiring to my own display of the ocean right from my picture window was a treasure in itself. Everyone made me feel right at home. I enjoyed having my morning conversations with them and sharing my previous and present day's adventures. Being an active person,I was pleased to receive a number of brochures
from Elk cove prior to my trip.Kayaking in the ocean while exploring caves along the coast was my greatest thrill. You can't go wrong with this enchanted place.
At the time of my departure, I even inquired about and viewed their larger suites for my return trip next year.I can't wait!!!

Be prepared for the most incredible scenery, views, gardens and breakfast. A terrific staff, who really make you feel welcome and comfortable. I can't wait to go back and spend a week there.

Spectualar view and romantic setting. For that alone, this B&B is very special.
