This year is the 150th anniversary of the Civil War (1861-1865). Commemorative events will be happening through 2015. A wonderful way to be a part of this historical event is to take advantage of these Sesquicentennial (that means 150th) Getaways. You will begin your vacation at the historic Mayhurst Inn which was General A.P. Hill had his HQ from November 1863 to May 1864, and where 18,000 Confederate Troops camped. You can borrow our metal detector and find some artifacts. As Pat says, 18,000 guys and no one to pick up after them, they left a lot of stuff around. Generals Lee, Jackson and A.P. Hill all visited at Mayhurst. Washington did not sleep here.

Do you consider yourself to be a history buff? Plan a trip to Richmond and learn more about the South’s role in the great Civil war as well as some of Richmond’s own wonderful local history.
During your stay, enjoy breakfast at the Historic Grace Manor Inn. Afterwards, a private tour guide will pick you up and take you to the Museum & White House of the Confederacy. There, you will be admitted to the Museum and be given a guided tour of the White House. Following the tour, your driver will take you on a customized tour of other Civil War sites.
