This year is the 150th anniversary of the Civil War (1861-1865). Commemorative events will be happening through 2015. A wonderful way to be a part of this historical event is to take advantage of these Sesquicentennial (that means 150th) Getaways. These trips include battlefield tours led by local experts, re-enactments, stays at historical locations, 1860s themed meals, and more.

You will begin your vacation at the historic Mayhurst Inn which was where General A.P. Hill had his HQ from November 1863 to May 1864, and where 18,000 Confederate Troops camped. You can borrow our metal detector and find some artifacts. As Pat says, 18,000 guys and no one to pick up after them, they left a lot of stuff around. Generals Lee, Jackson and A.P. Hill all visited at Mayhurst. Washington did not sleep here.
