Directions: From Ellsworth follow Route3 south into Trenton where you will find the Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center on the right. Once over the Mt. Desert Island bridge you will see the Acadia National Park Information Center on the right. Beyond that, Route 3 bears off to the left and you proceed straight ahead following Routes 198 and 102 south to the historic village of Somesville. At the traffic light Route 198 turns left and you proceed straight ahead on Route 102. It is 5.5 miles from Somesville traffic light to your left turn onto Fernald Point Road. You will pass Echo Lake (swimming) on the right, pass between St. Sauveur and Beech Mountains and then start down the long grade of Carroll's Hill. The shopping plaza will appear on your left and, just beyond, it is time to put on the brakes and your direction signal, because the left turn onto Fernald Point Road is at the bottom of the grade. Please hug the yellow line as you approach the turn so that traffic behind you may pass to your right. After the turn, the Causeway Club is on your right. The golf course is nine holes and you are more than welcome to try your hand at the game. The pro shop is in the white cottage. It is just 4/10 of a mile along Fernald Point Road to the entrance of The Birches. Make a right turn into the entrance and continue to the right into the parking circle above the croquet court and gardens. Your entrance to the house is trimmed in yellow and if we should happen to be out when you arrive you will find your assignment slip in the foyer. Your are our house guests so please make yourselves comfortable. |
