Directions:

O'Hare Airport
From O’Hare Airport: By Taxi: Tell the driver to take you to 738 W. Schubert Ave. Explain that Schubert is 2700 North one block South of Diversey and that 738 is a half block East of Halsted. The building is the third one East of the alley. It is a two story ivy covered brick Victorian. The fare will be around $30. By Car: Take the expressway toward the city. Exit at California. Stay on the left hand side of the exit ramp and turn right at the bottom of the ramp into the left hand turn lane. Immediately make a left turn onto Diversey. Proceed to Halsted (800 West). There is a Walgreen’s on the NE corner and a Dunkin Donuts on the SW corner. Turn right on Halsted and make the first left onto Schubert. The building is the third one East of the alley. It is a two story ivy covered brick Victorian. This is a neighborhood parking zone. From 6 PM to midnight you may get ticketed, if you do not display a guest pass. You will find a supply of guest passes in the user’s guide in the apartment. Fill it out and stick it in the passenger side lower windshield. These are good for one day only and a new one must be used each day. By Train & Bus: Frequently faster than getting stuck in traffic; certainly the most economical at only $2.00; and, except in the middle of the night, perfectly safe. Assuming I can manage to carry my luggage, public transportation is my preferred method of getting to and from the airport. At the airport look for the “Train to City” signs. The station is in the lower level opposite terminal 2. The fare is paid by either exact change or a rechargeable magnetic strip fare card. The basic fare is $1.75 per ride plus $0.25 for a transfer. When paying cash, the transfer must be purchased at the time of the first ride. You will need a transfer so pay $2.00 at the airport. If you are going to use the transit system during your stay, I suggest that you buy a “visitors” fare card from the fare booth at the airport. The visitor’s card allows unlimited rides for the number of days on the card: 1-day $5.00, 2-days $9.00, 3-days $12.00, or 5-days $18.00. For more information concerning maps, fares, and schedules visit www.transitchicago.com. Take the train and get off at Logan Square. It is the stop after Belmont. Exit the station in the same direction as the train you were on is traveling. At the top of the first set of stairs turn left. At the top of the second set of stairs, directly ahead of you, is the stop for the number 76 Diversey bus. Take the East bound Diversey/Sheridan bus (Diversey/Harlem is heading West). Ride the bus to Halsted (800 West). You will get off on the SE corner of Diversey and Halsted. Walk East (same direction as the bus is traveling). Turn right into the first alley (opposite the Walgreen’s entrance). One block down is Schubert, turn left. The building is the third one East of the alley. It is a two story ivy covered brick Victorian. The last Diversey bus is 11:21 PM on weekdays; 9:29 PM on Saturday; and 8:22 PM on Sunday. Later than this you can get off the train at Belmont, take the 77 Belmont bus East to Halsted, and the 8 Halsted bus South to Diversey. The Halsted bus runs till 2:00 AM. After midnight you should be taking a taxi anyway. Returning to the airport, note that the Diversey bus does not start operation until 5:57 AM on weekdays, 6:00 AM on Saturday, and 8:41 AM on Sunday. Catch the bus on the NW corner of Diversey and Halsted opposite both the Walgreen’s and the Dunkin Donuts. Transfer to the train at Logan Square. Allow one hour in transit plus check-in time at the airport. I shoot for 2 1/2 hours from door to plane. Also allow extra time on weekends because the service is not as frequent. When the Diversey bus is not running take the 8 Halsted bus (stop is on SE corner of Halsted and Diversey) North to Belmont (four blocks). Transfer to the 77 Belmont bus West to the Blue Line train station. Transfer to the train to the Airport. Allow an extra half hour on this route.
